Telehealth

Information for clients

This document contains information regarding the telehealth services provided by Central Melbourne Psychology.  It covers both assessment services and counselling services as well as any administrative activities which we may need to undertake with you in connection with providing these services to you.

Please read the document carefully.  You will have the opportunity to discuss any questions you may have with your psychologist or counsellor. By participating in telehealth consultation with Central Melbourne Psychology, you will be taken to have agreed with the following terms and conditions.

Terms and Conditions

Services provided via telehealth consultation remain subject to the same privacy and confidentiality as in-person consultations.

  • We will only share information we hold about you with others when we have your permission to do so or when we are required to by legal or professional obligations.

  • We will not record our session with you unless we obtain your permission in advance.

  • If you wish to record the session, you will need to obtain our permission in advance.

Our preferred video conferencing applications are Google Duo, Apple Facetime and Zoom. We may also be able to use other services/applications if you prefer, provided they allow for secure and private connection.  If you wish us to use another service or application, please contact us in advance to discuss this.

You will need to use a webcam or smartphone in order to access a telehealth session.  If you do not have access to this technology, it may be possible to undertake telehealth consultation by landline telephone in some circumstances.

If you are unable to access video-conferencing applications, are prohibited from internet access, or have other bail conditions that prevent you from accessing these services or technologies, please inform us immediately so that we can discuss the situation with your legal representative.

Please make sure that you are in a quiet, private space that is free of distractions for your telehealth session.

Please ensure that you use a secure internet connection for telehealth.  Do not use public/free Wi-Fi for this purpose.

Given the limitations of the technology, it is important to be on time. If you need to cancel or change your telehealth appointment, please notify us in advance by phone or email.

In the event of technical problems, we will endeavour to restart the session with you.  Please ensure that you check your phone and email to facilitate our efforts to do this.   If it is not possible to restart the session in the time available, we will contact you to reschedule the session.

It is important that you complete our registration form in advance and provide details of at least one emergency contact.  This contact will only be called in the event of a crisis situation.

We may ask you to complete online psychological tests as part of your assessment.  In this case we will discuss with you a means to ensure that we can supervise your completion of these tests.

If it becomes apparent that telehealth consultation is not appropriate to your specific needs, we will inform you of any options for meeting your needs more effectively.  In the current climate these are likely to be limited and we cannot guarantee that an alternative service will be available.
